  • Bally’s plan includes a casino in The Bronx next to Trumps golf course.
  • The Mohegan Tribe wants to create a casino near the United Nations headquarters.
  • Several other major entities are also vying for licensing.

New bids continue to come in for the available casino licenses in New York City. Major companies want in on the action, to try and create a gaming venue in one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States.

Over the weekend, details emerged for two new plans, one from Bally’s Corporation and the other from the Mohegan Tribe of Indians.

Bally’s Plans on The Bronx

For Bally’s, the company would like to create a casino in The Bronx. The organization is eying a property situated next to a public golf course Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point operated by the Trump Organization. Officials have spoken to the Trump Organization about using 17 of the 300 acres of the land to create a Bally’s branded casino.

The property was formally ran by Donald Trump but now is in the hands of his sons Donald Jr. and Eric. The Trump Organization has a 20 year deal with the local Parks Department to operate the land as a golf course.

Bally’s would use ten acres of the land to create a casino and the remaining section would act as green space or provide housing for employees. Bally’s would like to eventually take over the full property in the future.

Mohegan Tribe Considering Midtown Project

The Mohegan Tribe of Indians are also interested in offering casino gaming in New York City, having recently launched a plan of their own. The tribe would like to work with the Soloviev Group and create a casino near the United Nations headquarters in the Midtown area of the city.

Little details are known about this project as the partnership between the two companies has just been announced. The project is called “Freedom Plaza” and it would offer a hotel for overnight guests, two high-rises for residential living, open space, a museum, and Ferris wheel, along with a casino of course.

Soloviev owns the site and would utilize the casino gaming experience of the Mohegan Tribe to operate the property. The tribe is responsible for eight casino resorts located across the United States.

Bally’s and Mohegan now joins a larger group of entities hoping to obtain one of three casino licenses available in NYC. Two seem to be spoken for as the existing racinos in the state should receive an upgrade, and if that is the case, then only one license would remain.

Wynn Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, Mets owner Steve Cohen and Thor Equities are among those who are hopeful to earn a casino license in the state.
