An unfortunate turn of events recently took place in Baltimore involving a lucky casino winner and the Horseshoe venue. Clarence Buckner visited the popular casino and won a substantial sum of money before going home to his wife Elizabeth.

Once home, it was not long before an assailant knocked on the door and threatened the couple for the funds. The incident resulted in a struggle and Clarence was shot and killed.

Details of the Event

Elizabeth Buckner has now come forward and reported what happened to her 66-year-old husband after the Maryland casino win. She says he was followed home by an individual who wanted to steal the money. After Clarence arrived home from the win, he sat down on the couch to eat.

Elizabeth decided to go outside and check the mail. When she opened the door, she saw a man standing there with a gun. He forced his way inside and told Clarence that he followed him home from the casino. He said if he did not produce the winnings, then Elizabeth would be killed.

The two men then began to struggle, and Elizabeth ran next door for help. When she arrived back home after calling 911, she heard a gunshot and found her husband laying on the floor. Clarence was taken the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott addressed the shooting this week, stating that the police department will continue to work hard and try to bring justice to the shooting victim.

Always Be Aware of your Surroundings

Nothing is more exciting than a big casino win, but it can also be dangerous. Always be aware of your surroundings when inside a casino as they are areas where criminals act out. Casinos are relatively safe as they offer security personnel and cameras throughout the venue, but once you leave the property, you are on your own.

This case is not the first one in the United States where a big winner was followed home and it most likely won’t be the last. It is important that players are aware of their surroundings inside the gaming venue. If you land a huge win, choose to take a check if it is possible. Carrying around huge amounts of cash is never a good idea.

You can also ask for an escort as you leave and if you are driving home, be sure to watch for any suspicious persons as you leave. If you feel that you are being followed, take a different route to see if anything changes. You can always contact police for support if needed. It is better to be cautious than be taken by surprise, losing your winnings to a robbery or even death due to an attack by an assailant.
