MGM Springfield has become the first casino in Massachusetts to introduce wide-area progressive (WAP) slot games, following a launch in partnership with gaming supplier IGT.
This will give players access to a new group of networked slot machines, where jackpots grow through contributions from players across participating games.
Dedicated Zone with 20 Popular Games
To mark the launch, MGM Springfield has opened a dedicated Wheel of Fortune Slots Zone featuring 20 games from IGT’s popular portfolio. The new area combines recently released titles with established games, offering several different gaming experiences across IGT’s latest slot machine cabinets.
The progressive jackpots have reset values ranging from $200,000 to $1.1 million, giving players access to prize pools that are larger than those typically associated with standalone slot machines.
Among the featured titles are Wheel of Fortune Big Money on the Wheel of Fortune Trio cabinet, Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Reels Double Diamond and Cash Link Reels Double Gold on the DiamondRS Wheel cabinet. The selection also includes Wheel of Fortune Triple Gold Spin on the MegaTower cabinet and Wheel of Fortune Triple Stars Gold Spin Deluxe on the CrystalWheel Stepper cabinet.
MGM Springfield Vice President of Casino Operations Ariam Aponte said the launch continues the property’s history of introducing new gaming experiences to Massachusetts.
The casino’s new dedicated zone is intended to distinguish its gaming floor while giving customers access to jackpot opportunities not previously available in the state through IGT’s WAP portfolio.
Wheel of Fortune Marks 30 Years
The launch also coincides with the 30th anniversary of IGT’s Wheel of Fortune slots franchise, which made its debut in 1996.
According to the company, the portfolio has awarded more than $3.6 billion in jackpots and created more than 1,200 millionaires through over 300 slot game variations.
IGT CEO Hector Fernandez said the Massachusetts launch builds on the company’s long-standing involvement in the wide-area progressive category while expanding the availability of its Wheel of Fortune games.
IGT holds an exclusive licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Television to develop Wheel of Fortune slot games through 2034, giving the supplier several more years to expand the franchise.
The Massachusetts introduction adds another market to the game’s long-running casino presence, with MGM Springfield becoming the first local property to offer the networked jackpot format.
