Scarlet Pearl Casino to add Cryptocurrency ATMS

  • The casino should be the first in the state to add an ATM for cryptocurrency
  • The goal of the machine is to attract the younger crowd
  • Players can use the machine to convert crypto coin into cash that can be used for gambling

Sports betting began in Mississippi at casinos around the state about three years ago.

For the Scarlet Pearl in D’Iberville, the venue has been able to draw in a younger crowd of bettors thank to the addition of sports betting. In order to keep the younger players coming back time and time again, the property has decided to add a cryptocurrency ATM to its gaming floor. The machines are popular in Las Vegas and allow patrons to convert any crypto coin they have into cash that they can use at the casino.

Currently, the state of Mississippi does not regulate if casinos can use a cryptocurrency ATM within its facility. However, the state does not allow credit cards or crypto to be used directly via slot machines. The state’s Gaming Commission has stated that they would consider going cashless if the operators of casinos made a request.

According to officials, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed the need for cashless transactions. The virus is heavily contagious and caused people to stop using cash in order to avoid catching the virus. In Las Vegas, several changes have been made to accommodate players such as the Resorts World Las Vegas going cashless on its casino floor this past summer.

Capturing the Younger, Tech-Savvy Gambling Audience

In general, casino operators in the United States are considering upgrading technology to coincide with the way the 20 and 30-something crowd conducts business. For many millennials, cashless payments is a given, and they do not carry around cash at all. This doesn’t work in most casinos, unless an ATM is provided.

At the Scarlet Pearl, the new crypto ATM will allow younger players to use the machine in less than two minutes to exchange crypto to cash. This is a quick transaction that the casino is hoping will be a big draw for players.

For table game players, the cash is transferred to chips and then once a player is done, the chips are exchanged for a different color and then taken to the cashier cage to cash out.

It will be interesting to see if this new ATM will be utilized by players at the casino. Other technology is also coming soon, including a special terminal where players can watch live sporting events and access odds for games. The terminal will also offer video poker and blackjack gaming, all offered at the same time.
