The Beach Nightclub, Las VegasSummary

  • The pop-casino would take place at the site of The Beach.
  • The Commission is expected to approve the license May 18.
  • The casino tent will contain 16 slot machines.

Century Gaming Technologies has plans to open a pop-up casino at the former site of The Beach to help Marriott International hold on to a gaming license. The hotel company acquired a grandfathered gaming license when it purchased The Beach Nightclub location.

The small plot is just over an acre and is allowed to offer real money gaming with licensing. The company must offer gambling for a certain amount of time every so often, so the gaming license does not lapse.

Approval from the Gaming Control Board

The Nevada Gaming Control Board approved the project unanimously during its recent meeting. The casino will only exist for eight hours and will be housed in a tent close to the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Century Gaming Technologies will run the tent with director of compliance for the company, Debbie Corinine, commenting the tent would operate in a vacant lot. The 16 slots will only be operational for eight hours on May 23. The casino will begin serving customers at 6 am.

The temporary facility is a must for Marriot to maintain its gaming license. The value of the land could decrease if the license were to lapse. The company is hoping to use the land for a resort option, or possibly sell or lease it in the future.

For a license holder to provide commercial gaming with a license, it must offer services for a minimum of eight hours, one time, every 18 months. A minimum of 16 slots are required.

Stalling Since COVID-19 Pandemic

Marriot has not made any decisions regarding the property since the onset of the COVID-19 virus. The company obtained the piece of land before COVID and decided not to move forward as the virus was gaining ground in the US and hitting casinos hard.

Over the past few months, the rough economy has also played a role in decision making. We expect Marriot will decide what to do with the location sometime this year as hopefully the economy continues to see a turnround.

Marriot already offers close to 1,000 guest rooms at hotels near The Beach location. The plan of the brand is to consolidate the hotel properties into one location within 16 acres, which would include the site.

The casino license has been maintained every 18 months by Marriot for many years to continue to hold on to it. The reestablishment can’t go on forever, so the company will eventually have to make a decision on what to with the license and The Beach property.
