Plaza Hotel & CasinoSummary:

  • The Plaza is opening a 2,000-square-foot high-limit gaming room with more than 50 slot machines.
  • The new space will offer private concierge services, hotel check-in and cashless gaming options.
  • Plaza CEO Jonathan Jossel says downtown Las Vegas could need new, higher-end hotel rooms in the future

Plaza Hotel & Casino in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas will boost its gaming offering with the addition of a fresh high-limit room, following rising demand for these games amid the changing mix of visitors in the city

The Plaza’s chief executive officer, Jonathan Jossel, explained that the new space will provide a more private and elevated experience for players.

The way the Plaza has evolved, there’s definitely customers coming downtown that have a demand for higher betting games

New High-Limit Room Offers 50-Plus Slots

The approximately 2,000-square-foot high-limit gaming room will feature more than 50 higher-limit slot machines. The space will also be capable of being converted into a private event venue.

Unlike traditional high-limit rooms, the Plaza’s new space is not simply about offering games with a fixed high minimum bet. Jossel noted that modern slot machines can accommodate wagers ranging from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars on the same machine.

Instead, the new room is designed to give higher-spending players greater privacy and an upgraded experience.

Members of the Plaza’s Players Club will also be able to check in to their hotel rooms through the high-limit room. A concierge desk will allow casino hosts to assist with restaurant reservations, room upgrades, rooftop pool cabana bookings and recommendations for activities in downtown Las Vegas and beyond.

The room is also equipped with Acres cashless gaming technology, allowing players to use Apple Pay and other electronic payment methods.

The official grand opening is scheduled for August 28, following a successful soft opening that attracted a large turnout.

Jossel said the addition of more than 50 machines without reducing the existing gaming floor gives the Plaza an opportunity to increase its gaming capacity while adding another reason for visitors to spend time at the property.

Downtown Las Vegas Sees Changing Customer Base

The Plaza has benefited from the increased popularity of downtown Las Vegas, particularly following the opening of Circa Resort & Casino in late 2020.

Jossel said the Plaza’s customer base has changed considerably in recent years, with its social media and marketing efforts helping attract a younger and newer demographic.

However, the property also wants to retain longtime customers. The Plaza continues to offer amenities such as bingo while adding entertainment, events and property upgrades.

Locals account for an estimated 10% to 15% of the Plaza’s business, with the resort remaining primarily dependent on tourists and visitors from outside the Las Vegas area.

According to Nevada Gaming Control Board figures, downtown Las Vegas generated $1.62 billion in revenue during fiscal 2025, up 0.7% from the previous year.

Gaming revenue also went up 1.8% to $812.2 million, although net income declined 20.2% to $159.1 million.

Jossel believes investments by properties such as the Plaza, together with Circa’s presence, have helped strengthen downtown as an alternative to the Las Vegas Strip.

The Plaza currently has no plans to add hotel rooms, but Jossel believes downtown Las Vegas could eventually need more and better-quality accommodations as the city continues to grow.
