Rendering of proposed Happy Valley Casino, PennsylvaniaSummary:

  • Final preparations for the grand opening of Happy Valley Casino are underway.
  • PGCB will oversee trial runs to ensure staff, machines, and revenue reporting are correct.
  • Plans were initially announced in 2020, but suffered legal delays.

Happy Valley Casino in Pennsylvania is even closer to its much-anticipated grand opening, installing new exterior signs and standing lights outside the mini-casino.

While the precise opening date has not been shared with the public, officials hint that players can expect it to happen sometime next month.

Alaina Woelk, the casino’s marketing manager, confirmed that final touches are still ongoing, including landscaping, accent lighting, and additional signage.

In parallel, Mike Bloom, assistant township manager for College Township, explained that the timeline was still on track for an April debut, despite not offering any specific day.

Prior to the official opening, the casino needs to complete a series of test nights that will be overseen by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

During these trial runs, staff training, slot machine connectivity, and nightly revenue reporting are evaluated to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.

PGCB Communications Director Doug Harbach noted that all 17 commercial casinos previously opened in Pennsylvania cleared these test nights without any issues. Harbach added that Happy Valley Casino has no outstanding approvals preventing it from conducting the tests.

Many Challenges

The casino project has faced a long road to completion, with original plans first announced in September 2020, followed by a long string of both but legal and bureaucratic challenges that gradually postponed delayed construction by a few years.

The casino’s owner ultimately won the right to proceed in 2024, with construction resuming in March 2025.

The mini-casino will host up to 600 slot machines and 30 table games, along with a full-service restaurant and a quick-serve dining option, automatically bringing new jobs and revitalizing the Nittany Mall area while providing a boost to the surrounding community.

Some residents, however, have expressed concerns about potential gambling addictions and the impact on first responders.
