The Monarch Casino Black Hawk located in the state of Colorado has been in the process of expanding its facilities and recently held a ground breaking ceremony to commemorate the expansion.
The casino is located in Black Hawk which is nearly 40 miles out of Denver and the extension is occurring on an adjacent site.
A number of dignitaries including officials from the local government and senior company representatives attended the celebrations.
Some of the key leaders present were John Farahi, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Monarch, Mayor of Black Hawk David Spellman, City Manager Jack Lewis; and several Black Hawk City Council members.

Under Monarch’s upgradation plan, a new 23-storey hotel tower with close to 500 rooms and suites will be developed. Casino space currently at 30,000 square feet featuring around 720 slot machines and 14 table games will be doubled. Other amenities being constructed include a spa and pool, four restaurants, along with several new bars. Facilities will be opened in phases as and when construction is completed. The property currently has a 250 seater buffet-style restaurant and a snack bar.
As a part of the revamp, the Monarch casino has already renovated the interiors of the existing property and constructed a parking lot having 1,350 parking spaces spread across nine floors. Farahi highlighted that the new facilities would integrate seamlessly with the current property and heighten the casino’s appeal.
In a statement Farahi said
We have been positioning ourselves to reach this exciting milestone and undertake construction of the new hotel tower since we acquired the property in 2012. When all of the new facilities and amenities are opened to the public, which we anticipate will occur in the second quarter of 2019, visitors to Monarch Casino Black Hawk will experience the region's most elegant destination casino resort spa.
He also pointed out that the property had great potential given its favorable location near a major roadway and would continue to benefit from Denver’s strong growth.
Monarch Casino Black Hawk is one of the 40 plus casinos that are currently operational in the state of Colorado. The casino reported consolidated net revenue of $57.1 million for the third quarter of 2016, a growth of 6.6 percent year on year while the consolidated adjusted EBITDA was $16.3 million, an increase of $2.0 million over the same period last year. In addition to its casino in Black Hawk, the company also has a casino hotel in Reno called the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.
