It’s been a full year since construction began on the ambitious $1 billion Catawba Two Kings Casino project in Kings Mountain, and if you’ve driven by lately, it’s hard to miss the scale of the transformation.
WCNC Charlotte’s Myles Harris recently got a firsthand look at the development, and, according to the latest update, everything remains firmly on track. The North Carolina casino’s first phase is expected to welcome guests next spring, and, for the time being, there are no reported delays.
According to assessments at the scene, the site is already showing serious progress as crews are seen working hard to bring the first phase of the resort to life.
When it opens, the initial stage is expected to feature over 1,300 slots, a total of 22 table games, a restaurant and bar, plus sports betting kiosks, all designed to give guests a fresh take on the gaming experience.
However, for the people leading the project, it’s not just about entertainment. They see it as the start of something bigger, a way to help spark growth and bring new opportunities to the surrounding community.
Up to 2,000 New Hires in Plan
“So we’re already making an impact not only in Cleveland County but also making an impact for our nation”, said a company representative, pointing to both the economic boost and job creation that are already unfolding.
Trent Roxxl of the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority also explained that the momentum is just beginning.
Right now, we have around 490 employees. We’re going to hire 2,000 more employees between now and 2027 when we open the permanent casino.
Beyond jobs and tourism, tribal leaders emphasize the long-term benefits this development will bring to the Catawba Nation. At last year’s groundbreaking, Chief Brian Harris highlighted how critical the revenue will be to the future of the community.
These economic dollars will help sustain housing, healthcare, education — that way our tribal members will be able to grow up with things I never had or never had the opportunity to receive
Once fully operational, Catawba Two Kings Casino is expected to become a major draw in the region, both as a gaming hub and an economic engine.
“I would say just come out, give us a try. We have a friendly staff, we’re safe and we’re clean, so just come out and give us a try” encouraged one staff member, hopeful that the public will embrace what the Catawba Nation is building in Kings Mountain.
