International Union of Operating Engineers Local 501 during a protestSummary:

  • The IUOE Local 501 has signed a first-time, 5yr contract.
  • The agreement covers 400 workers and includes raises, bonuses, health care, training, and a pension plan.
  • The Venetian praised the partnership, while Wynn/Encore and Fontainebleau remain non-union with Local 501.

After years of organizing and negotiations, Operating Engineers Local 501 has officially ratified its first collective bargaining agreement with The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, marking a major win for workers at one of the Strip’s largest and most iconic properties.

Five-Year Deal for 400 Employees

The newly finalized five-year deal covers around 400 employees in engineering, maintenance, and slot technician roles.

According to the union, the contract includes substantial improvements such as guaranteed wage increases, yearly bonuses, comprehensive medical coverage, access to no-cost skills training, and a defined-benefit pension plan.

Chris Park, a facilities engineer at The Venetian said,

I’m thrilled to see the contract finalized and implemented. The new rights and benefits in the (collective bargaining agreement) will help secure my future and the futures of my coworkers.

This milestone follows a collaborative multi-union effort that started back in 2023, when Local 501 and partner unions reached a neutrality agreement with The Venetian.

That agreement paved the way for a successful unionization drive, and Local 501 was formally recognized at the resort in July 2024.

The Venetian’s Matt Krystofiak: “Grateful for the Strong Partnership

In Las Vegas, Local 501 represents a wide range of facilities and technical workers. Altogether, the union represents over 10,000 workers across Nevada, Arizona, and Southern California.

Jose Soto, Local 501’s director of organizing.

This CBA reflects the hard work, dedication and solidarity of the 400 men and women who help raise the standard for our trades in Las Vegas. Local 501 is proud to have worked alongside The Venetian Resort facilities maintenance workers and slot technicians for the last two years to secure an area-leading contract.

The union effort at The Venetian was supported by several others, including Culinary Union Local 226, Bartenders Local 165, and Teamsters Local 986. Their joint push for recognition was instrumental in reaching a card check agreement two years ago.

On the company’s side, leadership expressed appreciation for the partnership.

Matt Krystofiak, chief human resources officer at The Venetian.

We are grateful for the strong partnership with Operating Engineers Local 501 and we look forward to a continued collaborative relationship as we move toward the future.

As of now, two major Las Vegas Strip properties still lack contracts with Local 501.
