Pretty soon, visitors to the Greektown Casino-Hotel will see facility changes along with a new name.

Owner and operator Penn National announced that the casino will go by “Hollywood Casino in Greektown” starting May 1. Along with the name change, the property will complete a $30 million renovation, complete with upgrades to the hotel and amenity additions.

The Greektown Casino first opened in 2000 and is one of only three commercial casinos operating in Detroit. Penn National Gaming has been in charge of the venue and decided after so many decades in operation, its time for a change.

 

The casino has seen a $30 million renovation including the hotel lobby. A new cocktail bar was created in the space along with a redesign of the hotel’s guest rooms and suites. The full project is not completed yet, but the work should be completed in a few months.

Additional dining options are in the plans including Rock Bar, an upscale version of Dunkin’ and a Detroit Taco Company. The steakhouse of the casino, known as Prism, will offer a new menu in the future.

On top of the physical changes, the casino will be offering a new tech feature known as mywallet. The feature will be connected to the casino’s rewards app. Players can connect slot machines as well as table games to their mobile devices. The feature can be used to add funds, collect wins, and earn points for gaming.

Additional Renovation Details

Penn National created quite the plan with its $30 million budget to offer new options for every player and visitor. As part of the renovations, the company decided to spend $1 million to change the self-park area and VIP parking. The VIP Garage was remodeled and includes over 700 parking spaces for the casino members. This option is for high-tier players and is connected to the upper floor of the gaming facility.

Visitors will be able to continue to enjoy live events at the property thanks to a continued partnership agreement with the Detroit Music Hall. The 2022-23 season will include events with Boys II Men, Wanda Sykes, Jim Brewer and America, among other performers.

Towards the end of May, the newly rebranded Hollywood Casino at Greektown will host events to celebrate the changes. Visitors are encouraged to come on May 19 and 21 to enjoy the fun and exciting festivities.
