A closure would therefore affect nearly 240 workers in the northeastern Nevada city.

The WARN notices do not necessarily mean the casinos will close. They state that the closures could be avoided or delayed if the properties are transferred to a new owner or operator.

Maverick Gaming operates casinos in Nevada, Washington and Colorado. The company has been dealing with an ownership transition while its co-founder and owner, Las Vegas professional poker player Eric Persson, works to regain control of several properties.

8 Other Closure Notices Filed in Washington

The situation is similar to what happened with eight Maverick casinos in Washington, where closure notices were also filed. Persson has been working to buy back properties in Lakewood, Everett, Silverdale, Yakima, Pasco and Kennewick.

He previously told a Seattle television station that a new company would acquire those casinos and that about 850 workers could keep their jobs.

Those employees include dealers, cooks, servers, bartenders, cashiers, supervisors and workers in security and management.

Persson has explained that his current company was not in bankruptcy. According to his account, he agreed to transfer assets to lenders in July 2025. In turn, the enders subsequently filed for bankruptcy through a separate company.

He also said he bought back the Maverick Gaming name as part of the restructuring and considers the current business separate from the company involved in the bankruptcy case.

In conclusion, for the two Elko casinos, the latest WARN filings provide an early warning rather than a definitive closure date. The properties could remain open if an ownership or operating transition is completed.

For the time being, employees at the Maverick Casino Hotel and Gold Country Inn and Casino face uncertainty heading into November, with the potential closure date set for Nov. 30.

Summary: The Maverick Casino Hotel and Gold Country Inn and Casino could close on November 30.
