Their arguments: the project doesn\u2019t fit the area and lacks the support of the community.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal that calls for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/news\/virginia-lawmakers-to-reconsider-casino-plan-for-fairfax-county\">casino and entertainment district near the Spring Hill Metro station in Tysons Corner<\/a> was pitched as an important economic boost by supporters. However, county leaders pushed back, saying the location isn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walter Alcorn<\/strong> of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We\u2019ve seen in other parts of the commonwealth where there are successful casino proposals, we\u2019ve seen those come up through the local government, through local communities. This has been the opposite, this has come really from the state down to the local level. So it doesn\u2019t have the community support<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The board voted 5-4 to update its state legislative program to formally oppose the Tysons casino plan.<\/p>\n<p>The idea first surfaced in 2023 and has been floating around ever since. It\u2019s tied to a much larger development that would include restaurants, shops, a hotel, and a casino of about 200,000 square feet right off the Silver Line.<\/p>\n<p>People backing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/states\/viriginia\">Virginia casino<\/a> project say it would create jobs and generate major tax revenue, but many residents, small business owners, and local groups have been telling county leaders from the start that they don\u2019t want a casino in Tysons.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iX4b-5545xg?si=aO1bbaok-aYMdfyr?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"prioritizing-the-voices-of-fairfax-county-residents\">Prioritizing the Voices of Fairfax County Residents<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tysonsstakeholdersalliance.com\">Tysons Stakeholders Alliance<\/a><\/strong> said in a statement to FOX 5.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We\u2019re encouraged to see the Board of Supervisors clearly prioritize the voices of Fairfax County residents and the long-term success of Tysons with today\u2019s meaningful developments. The strong opposition we\u2019ve heard from residents, business owners and community leaders matters. We hope the concerns raised today, and the clear opposition from the Tysons community, continue to shape the conversation in Richmond as policymakers consider any potential casino proposal<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fairfax County Chairman <strong>Jeff McKay<\/strong> said his main focus has always been making sure residents aren\u2019t left unprotected. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What I have been concerned about since day one isn\u2019t necessarily we are for or against it, it\u2019s to make sure the protections that residents of this county need are in the bill<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The General Assembly reconvenes on January 14.
