Laura D. Supica<\/strong>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/states\/maine\">Maine online casino<\/a> bill was short three votes on Tuesday when 74 members of the Maine House of Representatives voted against <a href=\"https:\/\/legislature.maine.gov\/bills\/getPDF.asp?paper=HP1140&#038;item=1&#038;snum=131\">LD1777<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>71 representatives expressed their votes in favor of the iGaming measure that would have made iGaming legal for the people of Maine while sending revenue to the state\u2019s tribes. <\/p>\n<p>While the <em>74-71<\/em> defeat most likely means the bill is dead, its sponsor did manage to send the \u201c<em>ought not to pass<\/em>\u201d motion from the Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs to the Senate from the House, where it will be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"hope-to-recede-and-concur\">Hope to \u201cRecede and Concur\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>This means that there is still a small chance that the Senate might decide to resuscitate the measure.<\/p>\n<p>Supica commented on the April 9 vote, expressing hope that the Senate would choose to pass the motion, which would allow them to \u201c<em>recede and concur<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Now, folks are on the record and folks can try to flip their votes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Provided the House and Senate give the green light to LD1777, the gambling measure would ask for the signature of <strong>Gov. Janet Mills<\/strong> to be turned into law.<\/p>\n<p>In case Maine manages to make online casinos legal, it could be the only state to do it in 2024, in the context of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/news\/new-gambling-legislation-introduced-by-alabama-house\">Maryland\u2019s gambling bill<\/a> failing to pass in the legislature adjournment on April 8.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-online-casino-maine-state-citizen-owned\">The Online Casino, \u201dMaine State Citizen-Owned\u201d <\/h2>\n<p><strong>State Rep. Aaron M. Dana<\/strong>, who is a member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe, spoke in favor of LD1777. <\/p>\n<p>Dana explained that a Maine online casino would be \u201c<em>Maine State citizen-owned<\/em>\u201d, as opposed to the retail casinos that belong to entities outside the state. <\/p>\n<p>In case the measure would pass, all revenue would be reinvested in the Pine Tree State.<\/p>\n<p>Dana further added that Maine\u2019s tribes were kicked out of retail casino gaming, as both facilities operate as commercial casinos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Summary: State Rep.
