{"id":1687,"date":"2020-11-09T09:06:17","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T09:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/?p=1687"},"modified":"2020-11-09T09:06:17","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T09:06:17","slug":"caesars-announces-plans-to-reopen-rio-casino-before-december-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/news\/caesars-announces-plans-to-reopen-rio-casino-before-december-2020","title":{"rendered":"Caesars Announces Plans To Reopen Rio Casino Before December 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/rio-las-vegas.jpg\" alt=\"Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino\" title=\"Caesars Announces Plans To Reopen Rio Casino Before December 2020\" width=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1688\" \/>Caesars owned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caesars.com\/rio-las-vegas\">Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas<\/a> has announced that it will restart operations most likely in December 2020. <\/p>\n<p>The Rio casino which is best known for hosting the <em>World Series of Poker<\/em> (WSOP) had to temporarily shut down in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made during the company\u2019s third quarter conference call with shareholders speculation over a potential Rio sale has been ongoing for the better part of a decade until Caesars sold it to a firm owned by Dreamscape Companies, owned by <strong>Eric Birnbaum<\/strong>, a New York developer, for $516.3 million in 2019. <\/p>\n<p>The lease agreement between the two parties grants the daily running of the Rio to Caesars for about two years with a yearly rent of about $45 million. There is an option to extend the lease with the new owner exercising the right to pay Caesars $7 million for extending existing terms for another year.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"better-future-performances\">Better Future Performances<\/h2>\n<p>As other casinos in Vegas are scaling down their operations, Caesars has confirmed that they have no intention of reducing operations at the moment. Caesars CEO <strong>Tom Reeg<\/strong> said that unlike other operations who were looking at scaling down, the company was looking at opening more properties in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>Reeg further reiterated the company\u2019s need to improve its financial muscle and said he expected  Caesars to generate about $50 million in EBITDAR in October, which will be a $40 million rise compared to the figure recorded in July. Caesars is also looking forward to more convention business after it launched a $375 million convention facility in March called the Caesars Forum. The convention had already begun operations before being forced to close down due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/caesarsforum.com\">Caesars Forum<\/a> has already had about 172 events booked for 2021 and beyond with 80% of that from businesses that are new to Las Vegas. Reeg did stress the importance of getting the pandemic under control for the benefits of these bookings to be fully realized.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"covid-19-impact\">COVID-19 Impact<\/h2>\n<p>The convention business sector in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casinousa.com\/news\/nevada-gaming-revenues-drop-during-covid-due-to-no-online-casinos\">Nevada has suffered immense losses<\/a> due to strict health measures that have hit the travel industry very hard. The same cannot be said about other states that reopened their economies much faster compared to Nevada. <\/p>\n<p>However, Reeg said he was happy to see <strong>Gov.
